Context: I created a multi-text study through Lynne Bercaw's RE 4030 class in my Fall 2005 semester at Appalachian State University. I was given the guidelines and expectations, but the ideas are all original.
Impact: As a teacher, I will have to do multiple studies of novels throughout the year. This study has prepared me with a solid set of activities, websites, resources and ideas that will help me with such an undertaking. As a teacher, I will create packets similar to the one I created here, giving my students the freedom to explore the text through a variety of engaging activities.
Alignment: I have met the following NCDPI standards: Standard 1 -
- Indicator 5 - because I have provided numerous opportunities for students to connect to the stories we read through their existing knowledge, providing genuine reading situations and examining the information suggested by the written words.
Standard 7 -
- Indicator 2 - because I've integrated social studies and art into the study of language arts.
- Indicator 4 - because I have included an extensive collection of different teaching strategies, appealing to a variety of learners and addressing multiple intelligences.
- Indicator 7 - because I have developed a variety of assessments to be used throughout the study.
Standard 8 -
- Indicator 3 - because I have developed multiple worksheets, activities and strategies to encourage critical thinking about literature and writing.
