Context:
This assignment was created under the instruction of Jeff Goodman for GS 4401: Science and Science Technology in Elementary Schools.
A list of useful science questions were developed from watching the video The Lorax. The questions are designed to help students grasp the necessary science concepts from the film, and are more in depth than general comprehension questions.
Impact:
Because of the nature of the questions, students will be learning much more from the video with this list of questions corresponding compared to a situation where they would just be viewing the video. Many times videos can be used as time-fillers in the classroom, but this set of questions helps to ensure that students are obtaining quality information from The Lorax.
Alignment:
Standard 3: Indicator 1: Teachers have knowledge of basic life science concepts including: This indicator is met through the questions for The Lorax video by the inclusion of questions based on the environment and the organisms of the town in the video. Students are introduced to how human interactions effect the environment, as well as are introduced to how organisms function in differing environments. Standard 4: Indicator 13: Teachers enhance understanding of global interdependence. Teachers: This video, along with the questions, helps to develop the understanding of the students on the topics of envioronmental issues in our society. It introduces ideas to the students of pollution and it's effects, and allows the students (in the set of questions) to compare the environment they see on screen to the world in which they are living.
