Science Around Us Photo Essay

Context:

This assignment was created under the instruction of Jeff Goodman for GS 4401: Science and Science Technology in Elementary Schools.

Impact:

This is a PowerPoint that could be used at the beginning of the year to excite the students about the science to come in that following year. The questions are designed to get the students thinking and were designed spark lots of interest about all different subjects.

Standard 15, Indicator 1:

Indicator 1: Teachers use a variety of strategies to encourage underrepresented groups to engage in the schooling process, especially math and science. They:

• Utilize community resources.
• Give personal attention and encouragement to underrepresented groups of students.
• Use relevant and real-world applications that interest a diverse population.

This indicator was met through this assignment by creating it as a resource to use in order to draw students in and have them get excited about the topics that are to be covered.  The photo essay uses pictures to get all diverse students interested in the science topics related to their level.
