Context:
This lesson plan was created in the Fall of 2008 as a part of my student teaching. This lesson was performed in a first grade classroom at Fallston Elementary School as a part of a week focusing on being a healthy student.
Impact:
This lesson was used to help students be aware of foods that are healthy to eat, as well as foods that are not as healthy to eat. The lesson begins with a story, which integrates language arts, and then has the students do a hands-on activity to further their learning. The lesson also allows the students to use the food guide pyramid and to practice planning out meals that are balanced.
Alignment:
Standard 5: Elementary teachers have an understanding of the major concepts of healthful living.
Standard 13: Working alone, or with healthful living specialists, elementary teachers create opportunities for student development and practice of skills that contribute to good health.
