Story Pictures Rationale

Context:

This assignment was created for CI 3750, Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching, Spring 2007.  It was created under the instruction of Mary Rogers.  The assignment was compiled with as a group and my group members included Lindsay Gibson, Ashley Sigmon, Jennifer Gray, and Katie Greene. 

The assignment was made for second grade students, and focuses on language arts and technology.  The technology used to create the assignment were Microsoft Word, Adobe Photo Shop, and the rubric was created through Task Stream.

Impact on Student Learning:

The instructional strategies designed in this assignment help students with writing skills, technology and computer skills, spelling, and story composition.

By creating a story with a given topic, the students were allowed to express their creativity as well as develop writing skills.  Since the assignment was completed in Microsoft Word with the copy and paste feature, students learned new computer skills and enhanced the skills they have previously acquired.

This assignment met the following National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for All Teachers:

NETS-T VI- E: Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues.  Teachers understand the social,ethical,legal,and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice.

  • This standard was met because there were many ideas included to make sure that all students have an equal chance to complete the activity. 

NETS-T IIA:  Planning And Designing Learning Environments and Experiences.  
Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology.

  • This standard was met by the inclusion of modifications for diverse populations, including younger, older, and ESL students.

NETS-T IV-C: Assessment and Evaluation.  Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies.

  • This standard was met by the rubric that was attached for the story pictures assignment.

  •  This standard was met by the inclusion of the use of technology in the evaluation, including the use of e-mail.

NETS-T VI-D: Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues.  Teachers understand the social,ethical,legal,and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice.

  • This standard was met by including a reminder of how to use computers in a safe and healthy way.  This included stretching and taking short breaks during computer use.
