My Academics

Like every other undergraduate student in college, I too am pursuing a career. More specifically, a careeer in the medical field. Currently my major is Radiation Therapy which is a four year degree. First of all I chose this major mostly because it is in the medical field but also because it seems like most fit career for me. Growing up I always knew I wanted to work in a hospital and work with people but I never had a clear picture of what I wanted. Like any other child I thought I wanted to be a doctor because that’s the most basic career but as I grew up I slowly clarified what kind of doctor. Throughout highschool I thought I wanted to become a pediatrician because personally, I love working with kids but once I hit senior spyear I realized that that would be a lot of work and I had to be realistic. Yes, I would love to be a pediatrician but it’s not something I see myself as being capable of doing. I a, intelligent and I am ambitious but its just not something I want to do. Becoming a doctor takes a lot of patience and hard work and the hard work and late nights don’t end there they keep going once you get the job as well Being a doctor is a 24/7 job that I simply don’t want to do.

To be come a radiation therapist you must take anatomy classes, oncology classes, and communication classes. 5is major fits mostly with me because I love learning about the human body and I love speaking to people. Even though this major is competitive I think I can do it and be successful in getting it accomplished Andrew getting the degree. A four year degree is pretty basic and if I ever want to go back to school I can and specialize on something related to my existing degree. What made me  noose this was that I would be working with something concrete like machines to treat cancer patients. Like I said this major is competitive but I think I have what it takes. I will work hard through out these four years to maintain my GPA. I will work hard to get an internship and volunteer at hospitals to get the sense of being part of a hospital. I have already applied at Methodist as a volunteer and I hope that will help. In the past I have shadowed nurses and I hope to be bale to do that with a radiation therapist so that I can get a real experience of what the job is like and what it requires.

This semester I have learned that college isn’t a game and to be on top of it you can’t procrastinate and you have to have goals set and under control so that you can get stuff done. This being my first semester of college I have learned a lot already. I have learned that it is important to take assignments and classes seriously. College is very different from highschool and if I really want to become successful and get my diploma in four years I have to set that goal for myself and work hard for it everyday. I am currently working with my math class and it’s only the first semester so in future semester I know I will face difficult courses, courses that will require me to pull all nighters but I will use every free minute I have to study and go over details. Like now I will use resources like the MAC which truly improve my understanding of the material learned in class.
