Artifact 81 - describe how feedback from stakeholders is used for program improvement

The CTE Exemplary Program Review process during the school year 2008-2009 definitely met its objective of "a search for continuous improvement."  The stakeholders for the rating review process were Hayfield Secondary administrators, the four high school Family and Consumer Sciences Department teachers, and the FACS curriculum specialist. The middle school FACS staff was instrumental in providing ideas based on the criteria and exhibited tremendous support in this endeavor. Throughout this process, a collaborative effort was implemented to meet specific criteria completion deadlines; peer editing and revision sessions were an essential piece; and collaboration sessions with FACS teachers in the county going through the process simultaneously were used for networking and feedback.

During the Standards Review Rating, more stakeholders entered the picture--the Family and Consumer Sciences Advisory Board representatives (composed of industry related professionals) evaluated our notebook portfolios spending an entire day at Hayfield critiquing, questioning documentation for clarification if applicable, and  providing written feedback which would be received at a later date.

When the final rating was released, the stakeholders were comprised of the Hayfield administration, CTE administrator, FCPS CTE director, a curriculum specialist from each CTE discipline represented in the review process, and the department chairperson. This final meeting took place in July 2009, where ratings were released with strengths and weakness of each CTE program discussed.

In August, Exemplary Review Rating disciplines were honored at the opening Faculty Meeting of the Year.  Each exemplary participant was given a personalized Hayfield Secondary flashdrive for the accomplishment.  After the opening faculty meeting, the department chair met with CTE department members and evaluations were given to lead teachers of each discipline.  The final step in this process was to create an improvement plan to address any challenges or concerns given by the evaluating Advisory Board and return it to the respective curriculum specialist. The FACS continuous improvement plan was created and currently strategies for improvement are being implemented during this 2009-2010 school year.
