Lilly Global Day of Service

The Lilly Global Day of Service (LGDOS) is a full work day dedicated to service in local communities surrounding each international Lilly location. As this is truly a global day of service, the LGDOS presents an excellent opportunity to survey international participants on volunteering behaviors and event satisfaction. Using past LGDOS surveys and research on volunteer satisfaction evaluation methods, my co-graduate assistant and I developed a survey assessing the following constructs:

  • Demographics and team dynamics of participating Lilly employees
  • Factors impacting employee' motivation to participate in the event
  • Employees' satisfaction with the LGDOS

The 2015 LGDOS yielded feedback from approximately 850 participants and the 2016 LGDOS yielded well over 100 survey responses, providing insight on employee giving and community impact. Data analyses on the 2015 data included descriptive statistics to provide demographic information about participants and general percentages of construct measures. The 2016 day of service provided more data, which allowed for a more in-depth analysis of survey results. Statistical analyses included regression and chi-square analysis, looking into the relationships between variables. Regression analyses allowed us to conclude that factors assessing organizational identification were more indicative of organizational commitment than the impact of personal values alone.

Our partners at Lilly are very pleased with our final products and hope to coninue our partnership during any post-graduate work. Because employee engagement and corporate social responsibility are strong career interests of mine, I plan to utilize the evaluation procedures and reports for the 2016 LGDOS as my final Master's project.
