Term Paper Expectations and Guidelines –

  • APA citation format
  • 1250-1500 words of content (reference page and title page are not counted in word count)
  • 12 pt. font
  • Four words or more from any source need to be in quotes
  • No block quotes for this paper
  • Title page as well as a reference page
  • At least six sources that include two books.
  • Papers need to submitted to Turnitin.com using Microsoft Word
  • Failure to turn in a term paper will result in an “Incomplete” grade in this class

Opening Paragraph – The o.p. should be (your own) original thoughts so that the writer presents the context, setting, and importance of the topic. The writer also conveys an understanding of the importance of topic as a result of the research of primary and other sources. End the opening paragraph with an underlined thesis statement.

DON’T LIMIT THE PAPER/OUTLINE TO A CERTAIN NUMBER OF PARAGRAPHS!

DEVELOP CLEAR AND LOGICAL PARAGRAPH STRUCTURE.

  1. Topic Sentence
  2. Supporting Evidence
  3. (your) Analysis and Commentary. Why is the information in the paragraph important to the thesis/topic? Develop a concluding transitional sentence that leads to the next paragraph. Don’t end paragraphs with cited statements.

CREATE A SEQUENTIAL/LOGICAL ORDER OF IDEAS… (I’d recommend to divide your outline/paper into three parts.)

  1. Past…

Subtopics…

  1. Present…

Subtopics …

  1. Future…

Subtopics…

  1. Conclusion/prospects…
