Science Photo Essay

This photo essay is a collection of pictures of everyday things (from natural to man-made) and questions that stem from the pictures. The science areas covered range from biology, to physics, to chemistry.

Context: This photo essay was created for science education GS 4401 under the advisement of Jeff Goodman during Block II in the fall of 2007.

Impact: This project can be used at the beginning of the year to spark student interest in science, specifically in observing and questioning the world around them. After viewing this power point, students may create their own photo essay or create their own questions to go along with this photo essay.

Alignment: Standard 15, Indicator 1 -- Elementary teachers encourage under represented groups to engage in the schooling process, especially math and science. This standard was reached because all people can relate to observing and questioning the world around them. Students can see that science relates to them personally, and not just professional scientists. Therefore, the under represented groups of people who may not be academically or science oriented can engage in the world of science through observing and questioning the world around them.
