Rationale for the Photo Essay Project

DPI Standards:

Standard 15, Indicator 1

Context:

   This project allowed me to make a PowerPoint show to illustrate how science is all around me.  I made this show by taking pictures of the world around me.  These pictures help to show how science is in my house, school, and environment.  After I took the pictures and put them on a PowerPoint, I came up with questions that  made me wonder how certain things are caused or effected by something else. 

Impact:

    By doing this project, I was able to see how I could use the PowerPoint program to incorporate every kind of content area with others.  I will be able to use this activity, or one like it, in my classroom because it will show the students that science is everywhere around us.  This is also a good way for students to start thinking about what is around them.

Alignment:

    This project let me engage the underrepresented groups in the classroom experience, by looking at the world around me and using science to do so.  I was able to use the community and its resources around me to complete this project.  This project will allow me to show the students how to connect science with their everyday life.  They will be able to use topics that interests them, individually and as a group.
