Rationale

Rationale for Microsoft Publisher Internship Newsletter

Context

Using Microsoft Publisher (a component of Microsoft Office), I made a one page newsletter to introduce myself to the students and parents in my Block I internship classroom at North Wilkesboro Elementary School.  In this newsletter, I uploaded a digital picture of myself and added it to the newsletter.  I also scanned a childhood picture of myself and put it in my newsletter.  I added a clip art picture to the newsletter too.  I talked about myself in the newsletter.  I told the students and parents about my family, the things that I enjoy doing, a list of my favorite things, and about my kindergarten experience.  I also included a list of dates that I will be in the classroom.  When I handed the newsletter out, I read it aloud to the students and noticed that the students enjoyed looking at the pictures.

Impact

When I become an elementary school teacher, I will use this newsletter, or one like it, to pass out to the students and families right before the school year starts.  This will allow me to introduce myself before they meet me.  I will later use this newsletter format to send out classroom updates to the families.  This will allow the parents and families to keep up with what is going on in the classroom.

Alignment

Having a newsletter saved on my computer will be an efficient method of introducing myself each school year to my students and their families (NETS-T Vc).  Using this newsletter is another way for me to communicate with parents through out the year (NETS-T Vd and DPI standard 16 indicator 3).
