ISTE Capstone Digital Portfolio
Completed in INST596 Clinical Experience
Description of the Assessment
Each candidate develops a capstone digital portfolio, in which the candidate provides evidence of attainment of each of the ISTE 2012 Technology Coach standards. The purpose of the portfolio is to provide candidates with a capstone product that demonstrates the skills and knowledge they will take with them into the prek-12 classroom environment. Candidates may also find the portfolio useful in employment interviews for Instructional Technology positions.
Alignment to ISTE Standards
Each candidate must select for the portfolio artifacts that best demonstrate the candidate’s attainment of each of the six ISTE Technology Coach standards. Candidates use the ISTE 2012 Coaching Standards Matrix for Portfolio below to list, describe, and provide rationale for the inclusion of their artifact(s) for each standard. It is the candidate’s responsibility to provide a clear connection between each ISTE standard and artifact(s) included as evidence of attainment of that standard.
Assessment Instrument
ISTE Capstone Digital Portfolio Assignment: Candidates in the Instructional Technology Post baccalaureate program must demonstrate their mastery of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) 2012 Technology Coach Standards. The purpose of the ISTE digital portfolio is to provide candidates with a capstone product that demonstrates the skills and knowledge they will take with them into the prek-12 classroom environment. Candidates may find the portfolio useful in employment interviews for Instructional Technology positions. The following components are to be included in each candidate’s portfolio:
· Introduction: Framing statement for candidate’s professional development and career goals.
· ISTE 2012 Coaching Standards Matrix (below): Using the matrix below, each candidate will list, briefly describe, and provide rationale for each artifact included in the portfolio. Candidates should use the following guidelines in selecting their artifacts:
o One artifact is required for each standard; however, you do not need to have a separate artifact for every element within each standard. For example, your artifact for Standard 1: Visionary Leadership might address Elements 1.1, 1.2, and 1.4, but not 1.3.
o In keeping with the ISTE 2012 Technology Coach standards, select artifacts that provide performance-based evidence. For example, artifacts that include evidence of candidate teaching a unit (e.g. lesson plan, assessment results, and reflection on the assessment) are far preferable to a lesson plan that the candidate may or may not have actually taught.
o Wherever possible, include assessments (e.g. in addition to including plan for a professional development workshop, include a summary of and reflection on participating teachers’ post-workshop evaluations.)
o Include a variety of types of artifacts. Each candidate’s artifacts will be different, because each candidate brings to this assessment a unique combination of experiences from professional employment and/or INST 596 Clinical Experience school/district placement. Examples of possible artifacts include, but are not limited to:
§ Reflection on your role in critical incident involving change in school/district technology use (Standard 1)
§ Technology-rich learning unit as implemented (Standard 2)
§ Description of and reflection on coaching classroom teacher in use of assistive technology (Standard 3)
§ Professional development workshop as implemented (Standard 4)
§ Parent workshop on supervising children’s Internet use as implemented (Standard 5)
§ Candidate’s professional development plan and progress made toward pd goals (Standard 6)
· Artifacts: Following the matrix, each candidate will include the actual artifacts listed in the matrix. These should be well organized, clearly labeled using the same name given to the artifact in the matrix, and include the final grade assigned by the course instructor.
· Annotations to artifacts: Annotations may be added wherever needed to explain the significance of each artifact/performance evidences so that the viewer of the portfolio gets a complete picture of where the artifact came from, and what it signifies regarding the candidate's capabilities. Annotations should include the context, conditions, and scope of the work, the candidate's role in that work (especially if a collaborative work) and how the artifact demonstrates that you have met the standard.
