Lesson Plan

Context: This unit was created for CI 3110, Elementary Social Studies Methods. It was created under the advisement of Dr. Claire Mamola.

The Alphabet book lesson plan allowed the students to look up landforms on their own and find out one fact about it.  They then put everything together and into one book.

Impact: The alphabet book allowed the students to create their own book with their classmates.  They where assigned a letter to find something that started with that letter.  They had to find a land form, write a fact or sentence describing what it is, and finally they drew a picture of it.

Alignment: This unit met the following North Carolina Standards for Elementary School teachers:

Standard 4: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in social studies.

Indicator 6: Teachers understand basic geographic concepts and how they can be integrated including:
--map, globe, and chart skills

-This indicator was met by having the students make their pages.

Standard 8: Teachers design instructional programs and strategies that build on students' experiences and existing language skills to help students become competent, effective users of language.

Indicator 5: Teachers provide students opportunities to explore the use of different genres of writing and speaking to a variety of audiences.

-The indicator was met when they students looked at actual published alphabet books and making their own.
