Philosophy of Education

My philosophy of education is that the student is the main focus of the educational environment.  A student-centered environment will consider the individual needs of the student as well as the student’s unique process of learning.  I believe that individual differences must be respected and recognized.  The educational environment must make a goal in helping students identify and build upon their unique learning styles. My belief is that every student is capable of learning, and as a teacher, I will help each student to realize that he or she can reach their full potential.

I believe in fully engaging the student in the learning process and providing a safe environment.  I do not believe in teaching students to just memorize material.  I think this can be destructive to the environment.  My belief is that students can learn material by a variety of learning methods and apply their knowledge to the outside world.  Teaching will be done through a collaborative environment.  There will be small-group activities that will require cooperative work with others as well as independent work.  Also, I plan to continuously follow the latest research on different methods of teaching.

I believe that a teacher must be an inspirational role model.  In order to inspire students, the teacher must establish excellent classroom management skills, constant motivation, and an effective teaching curriculum.  The purpose of education is to enable students to be successful as well as responsible and positive citizens to society.  I will continue to inspire students by furthering my education through a Master of Education in Instructional Design. This degree will help me to develop effective instruction that caters to each student’s learning style.  My ultimate goal is to educate, love, motivate, and inspire each student to value lifelong learning.
