John Adams was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on October 30, 1735. His father was a farmer. Adams graduated from Harvard University in 1755 and became a lawyer in Boston.

In 1764 he married Abigail Smith and they had five children.

Before he was president, he helped write the Declaration of Independence. (This was a very important Document!)  In 1789 he was elected to be the first Vice-President.  George Washington, his friend, was the president.

John Adams became president in 1797.  He served until 1801.  He was the second president of the United States of America.  His Vice-President was Thomas Jefferson.

An interesting fact about John Adams is that he was the first President to live in the White House. He moved there with his family in 1800.

John Adams’ son, John Quincy Adams, was also President of the United States.  He was elected in 1826.

John Adams died on July 4, 1826. (He signed the Declaration of Independence exactly 50 years earlier)
