Mrs. Henley's Math Site

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I am super excited to be your math teacher. If you have any questions, please let me know. You can email me at mrshenley@stjohnregional.org or speak with me directly. I am here to make sure you have a great year!

This is my 14th year teaching Middle School Math, and my third year teaching at St. John Regional School. I absolutely love math and teaching. I know that math is not always everybody's favorite subject, and believe it or not, it was not always mine. This is why I feel so passionately that it is my job to make mathematics accessible to all of my students.

A little about myself: I am a wife and mother of two beautiful children. My husband is my best friend and am lucky that God has blessed me to have him in my life. Our seven year old little girl, named Jocelin, will be attending second grade at SJRS this year. We also have a spirited five year old, named Thomas Edward (Teddy), who keeps us on our toes.  I grew up in the Keene area and attended Keene State College. I have a Masters of Education in Mathematics: Curriculum and Instruction through Concordia University- Portland. I am an avid reader, and I enjoy discussing what I read. I love to get suggestions from my students on what to read next. I have read most of the books in the Little Library in my classroom.

What's happening?

To find out what is happening in our classroom, please go to RenWeb.

You can also stay up to date by signing-up for Remind. Information on how to sign-up for Remind was sent home on the first day of school and can be found in the documents section on RenWeb as well as at the bottom of this website.

Math Help

Math Help will be after school Wednesdays until 3:45 pm.  Additional days will be posted on Remind and in the classroom.

MathCounts:

MathCounts is the program that the school math team participates in. It is open to any interested student who is in 6th-8th grade. Practices will be held once a week starting Mid-September and then moving to more frequent meetings as the Chapter Competition in late January/Early February approaches. See Mrs. Henley for a complete schedule of meetings. For the last two years, our team has gone on to compete at the State level.

Online Math Skills Practice:

Students are being asked to practice math skills online every week. They are expected to practice for at least 20 minutes per week. They may either practice via Khan Academy or Prodigy Game or a combination of both. See Mrs. Henley with any questions.

Expanding Your Horizons Conference: There is a terrific opportunity for girls in grades 6-8 to attend a FREE conference that allows them to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The conference is held on a Saturday in May, and Mrs. Henley will give you more information on how to sign-up as the date gets closer. SJRS and the PTO has made it possible for the girls to take a bus from SJRS to attend the conference!
