After graduating from high school, I decided that I wanted to help others and made the decision to pursue an education degree. I quickly learned that my calling to help others was not meant to be restricted to the confines of a school building. I decided to pursue a career in law enforcment after having many positive experiences with law enforcement officers and seeing the benefit of having these brave men and women standing watch for the other persons in their community. I decided to change my major to a criminal justice focused major. Even though LSU offered criminology as a subcategory of a sociology degree, I also wanted to have a working knowledge of kinesiology and the teaching of the athletic world. I grew up as an athlete and continued to be an athlete throughout my career at LSU. I decided to pursue a degree in, what was at the time, Multi-disciplinary studies as I wanted to have a working knowledge of kinesiology to continue coaching as well as sociology and psychology because I believed that it would be beneficial to me during my career in law enforcement.
