Standard 4 of the NAEYC Standards for early childhood educators states that candidates should be able to understand and implement developmentally appropriate learning strategies. Candidates need to know that teaching and learning with children is a complex process, and strategies need to be tailored to individual student abilities. They should be able to create positive, supportive relationships and interactions with students and their families to better help students achieve academically. Ultimately, candidats need to know, understand, and implement various approaches that are developmentally appropriate, create instructional strategies, as well as tools to incluence student learning and development.
