Biography

A large family can definitely make you a tough cookie.  I was born in Guyana which is the only English-Speaking country in South America.  In my family of eight (4 boys and 4 girls), I am the sixth with three brothers before and one brother after me so I became the neighborhood “Tomboy”.  There was not a boy in on the street that could hit a Cricket ball further than me, beat me at a swimming race across the river, paddle a boat, climb a tree, or catch a fish.  I must admit I still have that aggressive boyish tactics, playfulness and mannerisms in me.

All that changed when my dad, who was half East Indian, died when I was sixteen years old, I became the keeper of my family as my mom (who was half Chinese) had migrated to the USA with my two older sisters.  Life became extremely hard.  This period of my life has thought me so much in life that now I always say that I can walk through a storm and keep trudging on.

Growing up in a country where basic needs are not met gives an individual a whole new perspective on life.   In my opinion, my tough upbringing has prepared me well for teaching.  Everyday I enter the classroom I am so excited as growing up I have never had a classroom as such; the supplies, desks and chairs, manipulatives, carpets etc.  The technology with all the amenities in today’s classroom truly gives me a rush.

Before I migrated here to Georgia in 1994, I lived for three years in the British Islands.  I am married to the most kindest and caring gentleman in the entire universe.  In our twenty five years of marriage we have never ever had an argument.  We have two kids both of whom are in college.

With the raising of my two kids, my six years of substitute teaching, my demonstration teaching and my Western Governors University’s childhood education program I know that I will make a wonderful teacher as I have been well prepared for my exciting journey of teaching.
