Before watching the videos about Asset-Based Community Development, I had never heard of this topic. This assignment was difficult at first, but turned out to be very interesting and engaging. It allowed us to explore a neighborhood in Chicago and identify the assets it had. We had to create an asset map with those assets and explain how it benefitted the individuals that reside there. Additionally, we had to create an action plan on how these assets of this community could work together to get the most out of their organizations. It was interesting to see how many different resources these neighborhoods had, but also create a plan on how they could be used more effectively for the individuals that live there. I liked learning about a neighborhood in this city that I did not know a lot about. I became more knowledgeable about Chicago just through the few neighborhoods we presented on as a class.
