8c. Professional development for the faculty and staff addresses identified needs for program improvement.

Artifact 61 - agendas from prof. dev. attended in last 3 years

The instructor attends continuing education in the field of veterinary technology annually as required by the Board of Veterinary Medicine.  Certificates of attendance are included as artifacts under criterion 4d. 30).  The following are conferences attended during the 2013-2014 school year.

  1. VDOE Project Based Learning workshop sponsored by the Southern Regional Education Board, November 19, 2013 (agenda and handouts attached).  This workshop is the beginning of a three year initiative beginning in the summer of 2014 (see excerpted emails below).
  2. Colonial Veterinary Conference, Williamsburg, VA 12/412/8/13, a page from the schedule is attached.

Artifact 62 - documentation of leading prof. dev. at any level during the last 3 years

The instructor served as Health Occupations Team leader for staff development in differentiated instruction in 2011.  Team leaders met with their respective schools of CTE for professional development course work in How to Differentiate Instruction in Mixed Ability Classrooms.  Different focus strategies were discussed to help design lesson plans.  The instructor was responsible for reviewing submitted lesson plans and signing off on completion of professional development hours.

The instructor has been involved with committees as described below:

  1. Served on review team for Small Animal Management and Veterinary Assistant I, II, III in 2012
  2. Served as member of site team for Arlington Career Center for the Virginia Governor’s CTE Exemplary Standards Award, 2011
  3. Served as SME on revision team for NOCTI Small animal Science Assessment, 2010--2011
