Several schools throughout the state have visited the classroom or emailed the Veterinary Assistant instructor seeking input during the planning stages of their programs in veterinary science or small animal care. These programs have included New Horizons in Newport News, Hermitage Technical Center in Henrico County, Blacksburg high school, and Rowanty Technical Center in Carson, Virginia. The instructor has corresponded over the years with new program instructors about recommended text material, supplemental materials, and teaching methods.
The instructor has served as team leader or point of contact to other teachers at The Pruden Center during professional development. Most recently the instructor will be responsible for mentoring staff in project based learning, and worked with teachers on developing lesson plans utilizing differentiated instruction techniques.
The Director of the Pruden Center selected the Veterinary Assistant instructor to participate in the VDOE Project Based Learning Conference in November 2013. Additional training will be conducted in June of 2014. As a member of the team participating in the training, the instructor will be responsible for bringing the information to colleagues and assisting in on-site training. Additionally included as artifacts is a letter from the Assistant Director outlining the instructor’s participation in a variety of teacher/leader activities. Also attached is a letter from the VDOE about the instructor’s participation in curriculum development for the Small Animal Management and Veterinary Assistant frameworks.
