Standard 5.2 Collaboration with families, colleagues, and community agencies

I have attached the letter I sent to the parents and caregivers of the students in the classroom I observed spring semester 2011. It is important to me for the families of the students to feel comfortable with the classrooms their children are attending every day. I made sure to provide all the information they needed to know about why I was present in their classroom, and offering a way to contact me if they had any questions.

I never had any parent or caregiver reach out to me during my time at Randall Elementary. It was nice to know that I was welcomed there by my host teacher, faculty, and principal in the school. It is important for students to feel comfortable in their classroom. I remember one student asking me what dorm I lived in. I told her I do not live in a dorm, I live in a house, but it was exciting to hear her curiousity and feel her comfort withe me. It was able to show me what she knew about her neighboring College community in the city she lives in.

The letter is found at the bottom of this page as a Word Document and PDF file.
