Title of LessonLocation & Place

Content To Be Taught: This lesson will teach relative and absolute location using Google maps of San Francisco, CA. To teach the theme of place primary sources will be used to expose the students to different parks, universities, festivals, and physical features that can be found in San Francisco, CA. Teaching location and place relates to the theme of people, places, and environments by teaching human and physical characteristics of place. Also, by using maps this lesson will meet some of the knowledge content listed in the theme as well.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to define absolute and relative location and provide examples of each.
  • Students will be able to creatively list and draw physical and human characteristics that shape San Francisco into the city it is today.
