Philosophy of Education

This section of my Portfolio includes my Teaching Philosophy. I have attached it as a Word Document and PDF file, that you can click to download at the bottom of this page. I have included the beginning of my philosophy below:

"Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school”

 -Albert Einstein.

I know I am not the only one that cannot recall one word I had on a spelling test in third grade, what my last research paper was about in eleventh grade, the last book report I completed, or even the last song I danced to at my senior prom. I can vividly remember though, Mrs. Moulton, my favorite elementary school teacher. Also, I remember Mr. Green, my tenth grade English teacher, and how he asked to take my poetry portfolio to a staff meeting to present my work to the high school faculty. I can also summarize the last book I read that truly touched me, titled The Book Thief, and how my dad used to wake me up to his “Good Morning” song every Saturday when I was supposed to start my weekly chores. My teaching philosophy is a combination of all of that. It is like when a favorite song comes on the radio, and the words are easy to recall, I believe that to be a successful teacher it is important to provide the students with experiences and lessons they will take with them the rest of their lives.

My teaching philosophy only focuses on a few vital parts that include the ideal classroom, classroom community, different roles of the teacher, multiple intelligences, and differentiation. Without these key ingredients I believe the classroom would be missing the parts needed to function. I recommend listening to a favorite song before, during, or after to better relate to my philosophy because I refer to feelings, important parts, and artists that come with a good song, when explaining my philosophy."
