Standard 2.2 Science

The artifact selected to meet standard 2.2 Science Curriculum was the lesson I created titled, Spiraling Stars. This lesson is for a sixth grade classroom and teaches astronomy. Through inquiry students learn the different types of stars in our galaxies. Through several activities students learn about different types of galaxies, and the life of different stars. Personal application is applied through the discussions, and findings of stars included in our galaxy. Students will access NASA's (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) website to expand what they know and locate a satellite on their own.

The students that would master these concepts taught are the students that pay attention to detail. There is a lot of directions given for the activities, and some include reading. The students that fail to pay close attention will not understand the lesson taught. To have more students involved I could assign different roles for the group work. This way everyone has an active job in their group activity, and not one or a few students are led to lead the group. To have more students volunteer in the activities I could ask the students to write their guesses or ideas, before asking for a volunteer to share their thoughts. This would provide time for the students to gather their thoughts on the question posed, allowing more opportunities for students needing more time, to participate. It will be very important to remind the students to pay attention to all the details and instructions given in the lesson.
