Standard 3.3- Development of critical thinking and problem solving, shows I understand and use a variety of teaching strategies that encourage elementary students’ development of critical thinking and problem solving.

I created a Math lesson plan that will meet this standard. Below I included the title, content, and listed the objectives for the lesson. To read the full lesson plan click on the Word Document or PDF file attached at the bottom of the page.

Title of Lesson: Equivalent Fractions

Content To Be Taught: Students will learn how to make equivalent fractions using a Hershey’s chocolate bar as their manipulative. They will be guided using the book The Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Fractions Book by Jerry Pallotta, to make different equivalent fractions. They will practice recognizing equivalent fractions by playing a fraction matching game.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to draw and label two different fractions that are equivalent.
  • Students will be able to model with manipulatives mathematical content from literature.
  • Students will translate from a picture/diagram to a numeric expression.
