Project 2: Mini Project

For the next few weeks we have decided to do a mini project on snowflakes as welll as investigating holidays that happen in December.  When we return from Winter Break we will start a new project.  We will take a real-world topic and begin and in-depth investigation. We will strive to base our question on an authentic situation or topic (what is happening in our classroom and/or our community). We want our topic to be relevant to our lives.  We are very excited!

We concluded our mini project this week!  We learned all about snowflakes and how to classify them.  We also ended our December Holiday study with a Christmas celebration.  We studied three holidays that happen in December and used a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast.  It was so interesting to discover the similarities and differences of the Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Christmas.  Ask your child to share with you the highlights of the holidays.  We are so excited to start a new project when we return from break.  We have sooooo many questions that we want answered!

We are continuing to investigate snowflakes.  We are developed a driving question (What are the different types of snowflakes and how can we classify them) and we created a chart about what we know and what we still wonder about.  Next week will be using our observation skills and classifying skills as we identify snowflakes.

We will also be investigating the holiday Kwanza and Christmas.  We will then compare and contrast the three holidays (Hanukkah, Kwanza and Christmas) that we have learned about.
