Organizational Development

At Felice's, I would say that the more prominent frames seen are the human resource and the symbolic frame. The human resource frame focuses on the importance of the individual and developing the individual in respects to participation, motivation, and teamwork. With this frame, it is important to recognize the empowerment of the individual and the staff development  The symbolic frame recognize that a leader must illicit vision and inspiration within the institution. Symbolic leaders feel that people need to believe that their personal work and the work of the organization is meaningful and important. At Felice's we have a triple bottom line that centers around academics, community, and finance. Taking our triple bottom line into account, it can be applied to the individual as well as the business as a whole. Given this, it would make sense that human resource would be the most prominent frame seen at Felice's. We always encourage the development of the individual, whether that be through a promotion within Felice's or even Loyola Limited or even reaching out to the community through Felice's. Room for growth and change is always present at Felice's. Because Felice's is such a learning experience for every employee, the symbolic frame applies the best as well. I encourage my team constantly to be proud of the work that they do and to take ownership of their positions and responsibilities. In doing so, everyone feels empowered and important. I think this is essential in maintaining a positive work environment and culture. I am proud to say that the culture at Felice's is most definitely a high-performance culture. However, if for any reason an issue arises or practices become norm that are associated with a low-performance culture we, as a team, try to come up with a solution to ensure that we can return to that high performance culture.

Felice's has a great relationship with the surrounding communities as well as the Loyola community, too. We have partnered with many other small local businesses in the area in order to support each other as well as identify community needs. So far, we have had successful partnerships with Lickety Split, The New 400 Theater, Smack Dab, Warm Belly bakery, and Edge of Sweetness. We continually look for new partnerships and any ways that we can give back to the community.

We also partner with the University and provide campus organizations, departments, and professors with catering. Many student organizations also hold fundraisers with Felice's. Felice's will pay back 20% of the ticket sales during designated fundraising times. These partnerships have been both beneficial for Felice's as well as the many on and off campus people we get to provide our services for.

The one area that Davis mentions in his article in which I would like to see Felice's improve is to develop solidified core values. We have our own basic values, however, it would be fun to see them on paper and put on display to instill them in the minds of the employees.
