This lesson introduced us to the many issues that we will inevitably face in the classroom. There are four main areas that these issues are categorized: societal issues, educational issues, cultural/equitable issues, and legal/ethical issues. I think being aware of all of these issues is very important, because technology has entered just about every household in America. It is inevitable that we will have students in our classroom who may be more adept at technology than us as the years go on. We must be aware of the issues and know how to prevent any negatives that may come from these issues. Out of all of the lessons in this class, this may be one of the most important for teachers to know about technology, as these issues are often dealing with the safety of our students. Attached below are the assignments that we were asked to write, with the articles they were written about in the document. It is very important for us to continue to do research and keep up to date with these issues in technology.
ISTE Standards
I think that the standard that relates to this week's lesson is Standard 3: Citizen. In this lesson, we are learning about issues in technology that effect all of us. Without knowing about these issues, we can't hope to resolve them. By mentoring students in safe ways to use digital tools, and by modeling and promoting ways to manage any personal data online, we are showing them how to be safe while using technology. We are also promoting curiosity in using technology and by teaching students how to stay safe, teachers can create a positive experience for students using technology.
InTASC Standards
The InTASC Standard that relates to the lesson is Standard 3: Learning Environments. By teaching students how to stay safe when using technology, teachers are promoting a positive learning enviroment for students. When students are aware of problems that can arise while using technology, they can take precautions to keep themselves safe and won't have to worry about what may happen while using technology. We can also use technology to encourage equity in the classroom, which can also create a positive learning environment.
CAEP Standards
The standard that relates to lesson 2 is Standard 1: Content and Pedagogical Knowledge. When we know how to use technology, we know how to teach students the technology and how to teach students different content using the technology. There are a lot of debates on how classrooms should be taught in regards to technology. As long as teachers use all of their tools correctly, though, and make sure students are engaged and understand the material, teachers should be able to teach with their own flair in the classroom.
