This whole lesson was an introduction into the course and what we would be doing. In this lesson, we learned about perspectives of technology in education, the history of digital technologies, the definition of instructional technology, systems and applications as educational resources, the rationale for using technology in education, and the standards of educational technology and the Education Department.

We live in a society that is constantly being updated with new technology. This is the world that students will be growing up in, and teachers must keep up with all of the new technology to be able to teach students efficiently. Students love the technology, and they will love learning if we use it in our classrooms.

However, it's not just about using the technology. We must be able to use it in the manner it was intended, and we must make sure that the technology we use in the classroom is both age- and developmentally-appropriate. If teachers can't use the technology properly, we are only hindering the educational progress of students. There are also many who say that technology is unimportant to the classroom, but if I had any doubts about technology being in my classroom before, I definitely don't anymore.

The purpose of this assignment was for us to show how we could use technology in our classroom. We need to understand when it is needed and what is needed for particular subjects. For us to be effective teachers, we must be knowledgeable about what we are using in our classroom before we use it.

ISTE Standards

This assignment really relates to Standard 1: Learner. This standard indicates that we must set professional learning goals, pursue professional interests, and stay current with research. This is definitely true if we are to use technology in the classroom. Teachers must set professional goals to continue improving in the classroom. We can't use the same things and expect them to keep working year after year. By pursuing professional interests and staying current, we can ensure that students get the education that they need to be successful in their life.

InTASC Standards

For the InTASC standards, Standard 7: Planning for Instruction relates to the assignment. We are being asked what we will do with technology in the classroom, and that is part of planning for instruction. We already have ideas in our heads about what we want to do and how we want to teach our students using technology. This is very important when it comes to being a teacher.

CAEP Standards

The standard that we are focused on in this assignment and in our course is Standard 1: Content and Pedagogical Knowledge. Pedagogy and content knowledge is very important if we want to teach our students well. Teachers must prepare their students for the future, but how can we if we don't know the content or how to teach it. Using technology can help us teach the content that needs to be taught, although it is very important that we still know what we are teaching and how to teach it so that students can understand the information.

In this assignment, I learned how important technology is for students and how important it is for teachers to learn how to integrate it into their classrooms properly. The students in the video were all very interested in what they were learning because it involved technology. Not only that, but kids are social creatures, and using technology can bring students from across the world closer together, which has multiple pros.

ISTE Standards

The ISTE standard that I found related to this assignment was Standard 3: Citizen. The students in the video are making friends with other students around the world, as well as using online resources to do projects assigned to them. They are also working on digital literacy, which can be helpful to them as they continue in their education.

InTASC Standards

The standard that I believe is most relatable in this assignment is Standard 4: Learning Environments. A major part of the video I used in this assignment talked about self motivation, collaboration, and positive social interaction, which is what this standard talks about as well. The students in the video talk about how they are able to use technology to be a creative when it comes to projects given to them by their teachers. The students can also collaborate either with each other or with other students around the world. This creates a positive learning environment for the students.

CAEP Standards

The standard that I found relates to this assignment is Standard 1: Content and Pedagogical Knowledge. You can tell in the video that the teachers are knowledgeable in using technology, which helps for the students to be able to learn about how to use technology. When students go on to college and their own careers, it is more likely than not that the students will need to be technologically savvy. By teaching them how to use technology, the students will be successful when they graduate.
