Context:
This lesson plan was created for CI 3750, Integrating Media and Technology Into the Classroom, Spring 2007, under the advisement of Jeff Goodman. This lesson was designed around creating a story from pictures taken by the teacher or student. The story pictures lesson covers technology, language arts, and media.
Impact:
This lesson includes several different instructional strategies that the students will be able to learn sequencing, how to manipulate Microsoft power point slides, and creative writing techniques.
Competency Goal 4 for Language Arts
4.02- Use oral and written language to:
Present information in a sequenced, logical manner.
Discuss.
Sustain conversation on a topic.
Share information and ideas.
Recount or narrate.
Answer open-ended questions.
Report information on a topic.
Explain own learning.
4.03- Share written and oral products in a variety of ways (e.g., author's chair, book making, publications, discussions, presentations).
4.10- Explore technology as a tool to create a written product.
Competency Goal 3 for Media and Technology
3.04- Identify, discuss, and use multimedia to present ideas/concepts/information in a variety of ways as a class.
Alignment:
The story pictures project helped meet the following technology standards for teachers:
Standard II A: Design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply teachnology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
~This artifact shows that I have included instructional strategies to support the needs of diverse learners by having modifications for various populations. These modifications are included in the document "Teacher Instructions." I included options for students younger than third grade and older students as well. I think it is important for teachers to have a variety of options for lessons to include all students.
Standard IV A: Apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
~This artifact shows that I used a variety of assessment techniques. Once students completed their assignment, students were asked to save their document and either share with the class or email their assignment to the teacher. There is also a rubric for the teacher to use to assess the students work, including the categories of creativity, mechanics, cooperation, and graphics.
Standard IV C: Apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.
~This artifact contains documents which explain to both the student and the teacher to use before and while completing the project. There are examples of a sample product, the document for the student to complete, and a rubric to evaluate the students' work.
Standard VI D: Promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.
~This artifact promotes safe use of the technology resources by allowing students the opportunity to stretch when they switch partners. Students will begin to get tired if they aren't given the opportunity to take a break. Students will be able to work to their full potential if they are given the opportunity to take a break while they're working.
Standard VI E: Facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all students.
~This artifact shows that I have ensured that all students have equal access and opportunity to technology resources by having the students switch computer time. It is very important for students to have the chance to work at the computer, since they may not all have access to a computer at home. By allowing all students to have time on the computer they are able to complete the activity at school, especially for those students who don't have a home computer.
