Context:
I created this two-page newsletter in Jeff Goodman’s Media and Technology class. I will be using this newsletter to send home to parents and students in the classroom I will be interning for my Block I practicum. In the newsletter I included recent digital pictures, a scanned picture from my childhood, the dates I will be in the classroom, and some interesting facts about me.
Impact:
When I begin teaching, having knowledge of Microsoft Publisher will help benefit the students, because I can use Publisher to create similar newsletters for parents and students, awards for students, and other incentives for the classroom. For older students I could have them make their own newsletter.
Alignment:
NCDPI Standard 16, Indicator 3: Teachers communicate with parents, guardians, and caretakers to build partnerships between home and school.
This artifact shows that I met this standard because I will be giving this newsletter to the class that I will be working with during my Block I internship. This newsletter can also be modified to use when I student-teach and even when I begin teaching. As a teacher I could use a similar format to send a monthly newsletter out to parents and students.
NETS-T V-C: Teachers apply technology to increase productivity
I have met this standard by producing a newsletter using Microsoft Publisher. This newsletter will inform my students, other teachers, and parents about me. This document also includes websites for children to use and a word search to do. I also have a part of the newsletter, which students will fill out and return to me so I can learn more about them.
NETS-T V-D: Teachers use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.
I have met this standard because I shared this newsletter with my fellow peers in my technology class to get their feedback. I could also use this format for a newsletter sent out bi-monthly or monthly by the grade level teachers to the parents to inform them what will be coming up in the classroom. As a teacher I could also use this newsletter to send a class newsletter (Meet the Class) to put in a school newspaper or parents or possibly the school board.
