Arts

Context:

This art lesson was created and integrated with science for my ART 3021 class under the advisement of Dr. Janet Montgomery.  The lesson includes six lessons on plants and art projects to complete with each.

Impact:

This lesson helps meet a variety of NC Standard Course of Study art goals for kindergarten.

Alignment:

These lessons help me to meet the following NC Standards for Elementary Teachers:

Standard 6: Elementary teachers have an understanding of the basic concepts of the arts.

Indicator 1: Teachers understand the basic vocabularies, materials, techniques, and thinking processes of each arts discipline (art, music, theatre, dance).

I met this indicator because I had to have a knowledge of the basic vocabularies, materials, and techniques of the arts, specifically for kindergartners in order to create these lessons.

Indicator 2: Teachers have an informed acquaintance with exemplary works of art from a variety of cultures and historical periods.

I met this indicator by studying rubbing and imprints from a variety of cultures and periods before I created these lessons.  I also presented these other examples of imprints and their uses to the students.
