Class Webpage

Smiley Face (Lg.)

Context:  This classroom webpage was created for CI 3750, Integrating Media and Technology in the Classroom, in Spring 2007.  It was created under the advisement of Mr. Jeff Goodman.  This classroom webpage was designed to keep parents, students, and teachers up to date on what was going in my classroom.  It includes media links, a calendar, photos, homework, and other helpful links.

Impact:  When I begin teaching, having knowledge of of creating a classroom webpage will help benefit the students, because I can create a webpage that keeps my parents, students, and administration up to date on what is going on in my classroom.  There are also helpful links to other websites, photos, among other things that can be beneficial.  I could also teach my class, if they were in the upper grades, how to create their own webpage.

Alignment: With my classroom webpages I met the following standards:

NETS-T II-B: Apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environment and experiences.

I met this standard by providing an annotated bibliography of webpages and articles for parents to view concerning students and the impact media has on their lives.  By providing current articles and research the parents are able to view information and findings relevant to their children.  These articles and research can help better understand why students enjoy certain media, how to use this information and use it in the classroom, and keep us up to date on current research about students and the media.

NETS-T II C:  Identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.

I met this standard by creating a page just for students.  Through this portion of the webpage students are able to read about the websites and use and explore the ones that interest them.  I included both author websites and other websites such as Discovery for Kids.  This helps broaden the students learning and give them a place on my website where they can find fun, educational webpages.

NETS-T II E:  Plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.

I met this standard by creating a link for students and parents where homework assignments were listed.  This helps to keep the students and parents informed and helps students to keep up with their assignments even when they are absent.

NETS-T IV-B:  Use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.

I met this standard by creating a survey for my class to complete.  I included questions about television and video games and how they impact the students.  I took the results and created graphs using Excel and quoted the children about their favorite television shows, video games, and why they like them in my results.  These graphs, along with the information show parents, teachers, and students the results of the survey.  Using this information, parents can monitor what their students are watching, and as teachers we get an idea of what student's lives are like concerning media.

NETS-T V-A: Use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.

I met this indicator by collecting the most recent data, articles, and websites to help benefit parents.  By continuing to keep up with the most recent statistics I will continue to learn new information that will better my teaching.  By looking up these sites and researching them, then posting I was using my technology resources to further my professional development.

NETS-T V-B:  Continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.

I met this standard through the reflection I wrote about using technology and our webpage while working in the school.  The children can access their homework and view the calendar of what is coming up in the school and specifically in their classroom.  I was able to post the results of my media survey on the webpage for parents and teachers to view.  I also posted photographs of the class, students, and some of their work so parents and students could view the photographs.

NETS-T VI-A:  Model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.

I met this standard by providing permission slips forms for parents to view, fill out, and return to me before I photograph or video tape a student.  This helps protect the privacy of the student and let the parent know that I will be taking pictures and video taping in the classroom.

NETS-T VI-C:  Identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity.

I met this standard because I included both an English and Spanish permission form on the photo gallery portion of my webpage.
