A country should be defended not by arms, but by ethical behavior.

Currently, my job as a teacher, allows me to learn significant and life changing information about students on a regular basis. In order to do my job as a teacher, I must hold that information in the highest regard and treat it as though they were my own precious secrets. I believe that as a counselor, I am also required even more to treat students' privacy as a unique and important characteristic that makes them who they are. If this task is not accomplished, I can lose the trust of my students as well as jeopardize my career. Ethic responsibility also requires me to leave behind my personal judgement and values and considering what is best for the student. The evidence on this page will be a resource at times when helping my students succeed.
Of the files attached, I believe the more important resources I will be using to guide my ethical choices are the ASCA and ACA webpages and documents providing both myself and my future employer with the understanding that I am continually reviewing these documents to improve my understanding of my ethical obligations as a counselor. To continue improving my communication through confidentiality is a goal I will maintain as a school counselor and these documents will help me achieve that goal.
Another important ethical consideration in a school setting are the rights of the students' parents. I want to be sure that I am keeping the students interest at heart as well as working with the student to improve communication between students and their parents so that they can communicate more effectively together without my interference. Keeping in mind the ASCA code of ethics, I will make an effort to maintain professionalism whenever I deal with ethically questionable issues.
