My name is Jeffery Joll and I am a student at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. I am a member of the Purdue School of Engineering and I am majoring in Biomedical Engineering (BME) with a minor in mathematics and a planned minor in medical sociology.

I chose BME as my major because it gives the unique opportunity to meld both Medicine and Engineering into something that can be beneficial to people everywhere. Since high school I have wanted to be involved in scientific research, and BME gives abundant opportunities for this in the undergraduate years. BME also gives me the options of working in industry, academic research, and medicine, all career paths that I am considering.

I try to stay involved in the campus environment at IUPUI by participating in the IUPUI Honors College, OTEAM, Biomedical Engineering Society, ALD/PES Honor Society, and Timmy Global Health. In the Honors College I act as a peer mentor where I am able to provide one-on-one mentoring to incoming honors freshman. In OTEAM I am a First Year Seminar Mentor where I work with an advisor and engineering instructor to help incoming IUPUI engineering students adjust to college life. With Timmy Global Health, at volunteer at the Indiana University Student Outreach Clinic where I am preparing to become a registration desk manager.

Overall, I think I am a driven and hard working individual. I like to stay involved on campus through various clubs and organizations and I enjoy helping and mentoring others. I understand what is expected of me as an employee but I also know what it takes to be a leader. In the future I hope to continue on in some facet of biomedical research, be it in an industry or academic setting. I am also considering medical school. No matter what, I am sure I want to continue my education after my bachelor's degree.
