For my Summer Pursuit, I decided to experiment with blackout poetry. What exactly is blackout poetry? Blackout poetry is when you take a written piece of text from a book, newspaper, or magazine (in this case, internet articles) and redact words, in order to come up with your very own piece/poetry. This is my first time ever doing something like this and I found myself challenged with the use of my creative freedom and voice...there's a strange sense of power in the redaction of certain words in some of the articles and I didn't want to lessen the effectiveness of the words of some of the writers. But overall, I really enjoyed my time working on this and I plan to continue to work on this aspect of my craft moving forward.
