Technology in the Classroom

Problem based learning is an innovative way to create lessons and activities that students can participate in to learn new concepts while using prior knowledge and applying their knowledge to real life situations. These assignments demonstrate a problem based learning lesson plan and PBL activity that have been designed to create meaning for high school students living in Arizona and learning about water conservation, the water cycle, and the desert they live in. The lesson plan and PBL activity presented allow a teacher to use technology for a subject that could be taught from a book, but with the technology a teacher can give students the real-life situations and meaning to an otherwise distant subject and concept.

These projects are alternate assignments since the TEC509 course had a different assignment when it was taken. These assignments demonstrate what the paper would have stated. This lesson plan and PBL activity meet the required standards.

AZ- Arizona's Professional Teacher Standards

The files attached below are examples that meet the standards criteria for the modules 5-8 of TEC509. There are two files to meet the standards criteria since an alternate example of work was needed. The format and assignments in TEC509 did not meet the assignment criteria listed here so alternate examples were chosen.

The first file, Lesson Plan, shows how the teacher is able to plan a lesson aligned with Arizona State Standards. It also shows how the curriculum and lesson were designed with learning theories, curriculum development concepts, the science subject matter as part of the state standards, and concepts in student development.

The second file, Technology in Education, demonstrates an understanding of schools in the community with respect to technology use.
