The Chicago Public School system (CPS) has one of the shortest school days in the nation and Curie Metro, the city’s second largest high school, has a drop-out rate above 10%. Statistics like these have triggered Loyola University Chicago to support CPS students in their education and overall future. One of the ways Loyola contributes is through its student academic coaching program, Target New Transitions (TNT).
As an Academic Coach with the TNT program, every weekend, I go out to disadvantaged schools and work with the students in small groups. I help hold these students responsible and give them the boost they need to achieve in their classes and in turn, setting up a support network so they can graduate high school.
