Feedback Plan
I think it is very important to communicate with students and their families about their progress. Providing feedback seems an essential tool for me to help students improve their learning, and I would like to give it to students in such a way that will help them attain learning goals.
First of all, I think feedback has to be prompt and timely to use it effectively. Long turnaround times will lose effectiveness of feedback because students would forget what it is or might lose interest in it.
I also want to make sure that the amount of student work is manageable for both students and me so that I could give them the best feedback. If they are overloaded, they might not be as careful as they should be when they do tasks. If they make too many mistakes, I may have to give too much feedback. Some of the feedback may not be actually needed. The reason why they did wrong may not be because they did not understand but because they were overloaded with the work. Thus, effectiveness of feedback will be lost. In addition, if they get too much feedback, they may get frustrated and may lose their motivation to improve. As a result, the feedback may not work effectively for them.
I want my feedback to be consistent with their work and with students as well. If I tell a student to show his work when he solves problems, I will tell the same other students to be consistent. If I say fractions have to be simplified in answers on one assignment, I will ask them to do so for the other assignments.
I will encourage students to revise their work to improve their understanding so that they will pay attention to my feedback. I want to be available to see me in person so that they can get direct feedback from me as much as possible if they have a hard time in revising.
Students are not only persons who are involved in their learning but also parents are. I would like to contact parents by phone or emails to tell them how they are doing as much as possible. I may need to set up special conferences besides regular one if necessary. When I contact them, I will specify what their weaknesses and strengths are so that parents can support their children more effectively for their improvement. I will contact them when students are doing fine or did a great job as well as when they need improvement.
