Club Discovery 2013: Activity Schedule

 

Session #1: Yoga & Aromatherapy Group with Stress Management 

The purpose of this group is to provide and demonstrate yoga activities that can increase endurance, strength and mobility. The group is provided with handouts for "at home yoga" that can be used outside of Club Discovery. The activity involves teaching members yoga poses, stretching techniques, deep breathing and relaxation techniques and mediation.

Sleep health wellness group (part II)- This activity provides handouts to members on how to make a homemade heated aromatherapy bags along with an activity on making a bag.

Session #2: Dance and Movement Group

This activity includes suggested songs from group members and OTS leads to teach at home exercises/dances in order to increase overall functional mobility. The purpose of this group is to have fun while exploring alternative ways to become active, increase flexibility and engage in a social activity as a group.

 

Session #3: Juice and Cooking Group

The purpose of the group is to provide members with healthy recipes for juicing that incorporate energy boosting vitamins and nutrients. Members are asked to follow provided recipes to create healthy beverages. The remaining pulp from the juice was used to make healthy muffins in addition to other healthy recipes as guides for each individual to take home for self-use after the activity. During the group activity, OTS leads help to educate group members about food properties that can increase energy levels, cognitive functioning, reduce inflammation and allow for better overall well-being and health.

 

Session #4: House Hold Exercises

This activity will include handouts on how to perform exercises at home using everyday common household items. The OTS Leads demonstrate the exercises to group members and everyone carries the exercises out safely in small groups to promote increased socialization and overall well being through exercising.

Part II - iPad Apps

This activity consisted of group members learning the basics about using iPads and how to download and play Apps that can help with cognition, weightloss, medication management, self-care task reminders, researching additional community support groups and interest online and overall education of iPad use and technology. The OT leads introduced multiple Apps that can be used to work out the brain through fun games.

 

Session #5: Jeopardy 

The activity incorporated the entire group activities completed over the course of the 4  previous group sessions in order to wrap up what has been learned during the groups through the use of a Jeopardy challenge. The game will also include fun facts from movies and events. The OTS leads will provided a small lunch for the group and the members will sat at a long table together and engage in discussions about what they learned, what they hope to gain and where they will use their knowledge from the 5 group sessions going forward.
