Loyola University Chicago

Center for Experiential Learning
2013 Annual Report

I returned to Loyola University Chicago in October 2012 in a professional role.  As I began weaving my higher education tapestry, I realized that the intersection of my passions and experiences centered around the desire for students to reflect and understand all they were experiencing.  I found a home in the Center for Experiential Learning, where it became part of my job (!!!) to help students make meaning out of the experiences they were having.

For my first year in the Center, I managed the Academic Internship Program where I was responsible for managing relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community partners through a variety of avenues including formal instruction, presentations, informal meetings, and site visits.

In October 2013, I assumed responsibility for the ePortfolio Program helping students, faculty, and staff understand and translate lived experiences into digital media.  It's the perfect blend of my love for technology and passion for experiential learning.  At Loyola, I have seen my love for the curricular side of education blossom as well as my interest to incorporate technology into the classroom and learning.

Recommendations from LinkedIn:

"Michelle is a dynamic, forward-thinking leader who brings positive momentum to each position she holds. I first worked with Michelle as her supervisor while she was a graduate intern in our academic advising office. I was immediately struck by her ability to connect well with students, faculty, staff and parents. At the same time, she enhanced the efficiency of our office operations by creating technological solutions to complex problems. Now, I work with Michelle in her role as the Program Manager for the e-portfolio program at Loyola. I've observed Michelle as she has facilitated meetings, training programs and one-on-one consultations to ensure that the e-portfolio program is understood by various clients at the University. As the champion for a program that changes the way we assess learning, Michelle has found ways to communicate effectively, develop training materials that clearly demonstrate how to use the technology in efficient and creative ways, and develop strong partnerships across the University. Michelle is a wonderful colleague and an asset to the organization."
