Inquiry Based Lesson Plan
5 E Lesson Plan
Context: The Inquiry Based Science Lesson assignment was created for GS4401, Science and Science Teaching in the Elementary School, during the Fall of 2007. It was made under the advisement of Terry Carroll, this course's instructor.
Impact: For this assignment, I had to organize, teach, and reflect on an inquiry-based science lesson. The lesson is written using the 5 E Lesson Plan Format (Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Expansion, and Evaluation). The science lesson I chose for this assignment was on the properties of solids and liquids, and is intended for second grade students. This lesson enables students to understand the basic properties of solids and liquids. From this lesson, students will be able to classify materials as solids and liquids by making observations of the two. They will create their own definitions of these two properties based on their observations. This lesson meets NC Second Grade Science Objectives 3.01. 3.02, 3.04. 3.05, and 3.06. It also meets NC Second Grade Mathematics Objective 4.01.
