Where I'm From

Where I'm From

By: Andrea Lane

Where I’m from, people like me

don’t try to be me, but criticize me

judge me for what I’m trying to be

Where I’m from, people only see

one side that I didn’t hide

because when I get home

it’s  a mom, a dad, 3 girls and 3 boys

between us we divide

Sometimes it is hard to choose

who is right and wrong?

But at the end of the day

we are all loud and sing along

Where I’m from, it’s not the hood or the suburbs

We still live in Cleveland

In a place you rarely heard

It’s a dead end street

But there are no dead beats and we all get along

you could go to anyone of us and ask for some meat

Where I’m from, you are used to getting “dipping dots”

To going to not even having a spot in their heart

They won’t let you make mistakes

For example, you couldn’t even be late

From frost bite to late nights

From just going to school

to knowing how to make a stool

Where I’m from, you always have food

But if you don’t we will pick up and move

No one really knows me, yet they still judge me

That’s why I’m not from this place

But where I’m from really

Too much time it will take
