Artifact #24 - National Standards

The fire and rescue course taught at Massanutten Technical Center is taught in accordance with National Standards.  Students are prepared to meet all of the minimum requirements for state certification issued by the Virginia Department of Fire Programs and State Board of Health.  Students who successfully complete the program become certified in Fire Fighter I & II, Hazardous Materials Operations Level and EMT-Basic.  These courses all have reciprocity with other states.  By following the lesson plans developed for these courses students are kept in compliance of the NFPA standards.  These standards are taught in the classroom and used in practical applications throughout the school year.  The EMT course is taught from the U.S. Department of Transportation curriculum developed by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
