Artifact 81 - describe how feedback from stakeholders is used for program improvement

Artifact #81

Program feedback is received in a number of ways for this program.  All subjects taught in this program are part of a certification course whether it is fire, EMS, or Hazardous Materials.  Due to this we receive feedback not just locally but at the state level to assure our program is in compliance.  All fire and rescue chiefs in the county have an open line of communication with me to address any issues that might arise.  As an employee of the fire and rescue community I stay involved with not only the career department but also the volunteer departments. I make it part of my routine to visit with my students who are volunteers and talk with their supervisors at each fire station.  It is through our collaborative efforts with these stakeholders we are able to offer a successful program.  It is to their benefit to offer feedback and for us to implement that feedback to improve the program.  These stakeholders recruit from our class.  Also, many of these stakeholders are involved in the actual program and assist in teaching these students as guest lecturers.

Though my curriculum is set by the state standards, I can often emphasize areas of importance for our community's fire and rescue personnel.  My students will take field trips to the city's training grounds and other fire and rescue stations and this allows these employees to have input to my students' training activities.  I also work with school administration to make our program an integral part of the overall school goals for collaborative learning.  We do projects with other career programs and our students will offer first aid or fire extinguisher training to others.
