Artifact 82 - explain how feedback from students/graduates is attained & used for prog. improvement

Artifact # 82 - Description How Student and graduate feedback is attained and used for students improvement

At the end of each school year, I survey students to gather their input on possible course improvements -what they liked and disliked.  I have used that information to make changes in the program.  For example, I have adjusted my use of powerpoint presentations and class handouts.  I have also encouraged students to do more powerpoint presentations.  In not providing handouts to students during powerpoint presentations, they were compelled to refer back to the textbook afterwards for review (rather than relying on my handouts for review).  Already this year I can see students following along much better than last year and actually using the text to study from.  Another change I implemented, based on student feedback, was to incorporate more practical exercises throughout the program and less at the end in an effort to develop a better pace for the classroom activities.

In addition to the instructor evaluations that are provided for all CPR and first aid courses, students are also to complete an evaluation for the fire fighter courses.

Also, I will see our graduates as I visit the area fire departments and seek their input.  This is very valuable as they are now more willing to offer input and feedback.
