Community Involvement

Not every job pays the same way.

IUPUI

Student Organization for Alumni Relations: SOAR (2014-Present)

SOAR is a student run organization that works to bridge the gap between enrolled students and alumni, as well as creating the Jaguar spirit in current students to push them to become active alumni after graduation. SOAR helps run programs such as Top 100, Regatta, and PAWS Pantry, as well as organizing events to increase campus spirit throughout the year. SOAR has a close connection with the IU Alumni Association and works ambassador events as a representation of high-achieving students.

Science Ambassador (2014-Present)

As a science ambassador within the Purdue School of Science at IUPUI, I work to answer questions and concerns for potential students here and tell them about my experiences at IUPUI. Working in such diverse portions of campus (being an RA vs being a peer advisor vs animal lab work vs events management) allow me to answer questions honestly and with confidence. I love this university and I love being able to show others why they will, too.

Non-IUPUI Organizations

Jefferson Awards Foundation (2013-2016)

The Jefferson Awards Foundation (JAF) is a national organization that works to increase the commitment to community service and volunteerism in individuals and companies within the US. I have worked with this organization for almost 4 years, beginning my service as an award recipient at their national conference. From there, I became a youth service initiative ambassador, working with students and schools who competed in JAF service initiatives to alleviate some of their stress and push their projects towards success. Currently, I run youth moderations for students in professional networking before regional and national competitions.

VEX Robotics (2010-2015)

VEX is an amazing organization that introduces students of all ages to the wonderful world of robotics. From elementary education using pre-coded robots to collegiate-level competitions with individual coding languages, student build robots from scratch materials (approved by VEX) to compete in a game that is announced at the Global Robotics Championship every year in Orlando, FL at the Disney World Resort. Competions are run in different age ranges in state, region, national, and global levels. Once graduated from a program, previous VEX students and coaches can become youth mentors to current students or referree at competions within your region.

GenCon (2014, 2015, 2016)

GenCon is one of the largest conventions in Downtown Indianapolis that brings thousands of visitors every year to show their love of all things table-top gaming. GenCon has an amazing volunteer program called "Page." Pages work for 16 hours during the convention and, in return, receive a free 4-day badge to attend events on the days that you aren't working. This was such a fun opportunity, as this is the first event that I have ever worked where pigtails and space tights were part of the uniform. The people who I worked with as attendees were amazing and treated everyone with respect and enthusiasm. It is an experience I suggest to all nerds, geeks, event management students, and new comers to Indy.
